NB Liquor announces changes to corporate store hours

09/03/2011

The operating hours of all 48 corporate stores of NB Liquor are being reduced to bring the corporation’s operating budget
in line with a reduction requested by the provincial government of all departments and agencies. The hours reduction at
NB Liquor is expected to save about $1.3 million annually.

"The provincial government has requested a two-per-cent budget cut in fiscal 2011-12," said Daniel Allain, president and
chief executive officer, NB Liquor. "To meet this objective, NB Liquor will align its corporate store hours to those of major
shopping centres, industry retailers as well as other liquor jurisdictions."

Following are the changes to be made in the operating hours:

  • Starting Sunday, April 3: only select corporate stores will be open on Sundays.
  • Starting Monday, April 4: all corporate stores will open at 10 a.m. rather than 9 a.m. and will close one hour earlier.
Select stores will have extended evening hours on Friday and Saturday.
  • Corporate stores will no longer be open on any statutory holiday.
  • There is no change in hours for NB Liquor’s 72 agency outlets.

This action will not result in layoffs of full-time or permanent part-time employees, however, their working schedules will
change. Available shifts for casuals may be affected on a store-by-store basis.

"NB Liquor’s vision is to be a high performance retailer, engaging employees in service excellence, and we have made
great strides to transform into a retailer and to provide consistent service to New Brunswickers," said Allain. "We are
expected to operate as a retailer first and foremost; and to ensure we continue to provide financial benefit to the province
while maintaining socially responsible pricing, promotion and sale of beverage alcohol."
